It Was Not January

I had seen the Amazon river and rainforest from above years before, but now I finally set my feet on the soil of Brazil, although further southwards.

Rio de Janeiro has more to show than just the Copacabana, for example the Carioca Aqueduct. It was finished in 1750 to bring fresh water from the Carioca River to the city. In 1896 it was adapted to serve as a viaduct for a tram line.

I didn’t walk around much in the city for safety concerns and also due to the weather which could have been better that time in November.

Europeans first encountered Guanabara Bay on 1 January 1502, therefore the name of the city which was founded in 1565. Rio de Janeiro is nowadays the second most populous city in Brazil and sixth most populous in the Americas.
