The ancestors of Malagasy people came actually not only from Africa over the Mozambique channel but also from Asia.
The Polynesians travelled westwards as far as Madagascar, therefore Malagasy and Indonesians are distantly related.
The capital city Antananarivo was founded around 1610 and the population is nowadays 2.3 million. Lake Anosy is part of the city centre.
