As if searching for L’Américain, but that is in another city.

The old Medina of Fes is also called Fes el Bali. In 789 CE a town was founded on the right bank of the Fes River (واد فاس) by Idris ibn Abdallah as capital for his newly acquired empire.

However, his son decided to found a capital of his own on the other side of the river in 809. In the 11th century both were unified. Nowadays the Medina of Fes is listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Public sinks are relatively common in the old medina of Fes, and they might be useful as temperatures can climb up to 45 degrees Celsius in summer.

The Kassr Annoujoum or Palace of Cultural Encounters was inaugurated in October 2010 and is the headquarters of the International Centre for Intercultural Dialogue.

The Kassr Annoujoum is also an exclusive restaurant right in the old Medina of Fes,

Waking up here means not only to see the sunrise above the old medina and the Sahara, it also includes typical sounds like the birds that appear in swarms and sit on the trees, like the old woman who screamed because she grew up in the huge house complexes with large distances, like the Spanish tourist groups with their guides, like salespeople, from time to time a motor scooter in the narrow alleys, and in the evening a guitar player playing his instrument in the Kassr Annoujoum.

The sun rising again to bring desert heat back, seen from the cool cabin of an airplane on the way from Fes to Frankfurt. The flight was scheduled to arrive at the small Hahn Airport, which is despite the name Frankfurt Hahn quite far away from Frankfurt. However, the captain made the announcement that the runway of Hahn Airport was blocked and therefore the flight was diverted to Frankfurt International Airport.
