The Akimat Residence is one of the government buildings of Almaty which had been the capital of Kazakhstan until 1997 when it was relocated to Astana, at the time known as Akmola. The building was damaged during the unrest that happened from 2 till 11 January 2022 and is currently being restored. In front a classical GAZ Volga.

At that time it was still possible to see the former Presidential Palace in the background of Republic Square in Almaty, the former capital of Kazakhstan.

It existed until the unrest that happened from 2 till 11 January 2022 during which it burned down and was subsequently demolished.

Countries in Central Asia still keep a bit of their Soviet style even nowadays, over thirty years after the end of the Soviet Union.

When walking through Almaty you might encounter this. It is not as tall as the real Eiffel Tower but it might still be useful as advertisement for the shopping mall behind.

A cheaper and interesting alternative to the one-hour flight from Almaty to Bishkek is taking a Mercedes Sprinter along the not always paved roads through the steppe of Central Asia. Common in the area are diverse Mercedes sedans, even S-Classes which can only here really prove their quality.
