The way from Cusco via Santa Teresa to Aguas Calientes, the town below Machu Picchu, is somewhat complex. From Cusco to Santa Teresa you can take a Mercedes Sprinter, but the road ends at the stop at the hydroelectric power plant. From there it is only possible to take a train or walk to reach Aguas Calientes.

Stop on the way from Cusco to Santa Teresa. I didn’t feel perfectly well due to the fast driving around many turns but I was more ok than other passengers.

From there it is only possible to take a train or walk, we decided to do the latter.

If you choose to walk through the jungle to Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu, here is one advice.

You have to follow the railroad tracks, which lead to Aguas Calientes, where the trains don’t have much space to pass through, so you can have dinner with them.
