Sylt is an island in northern Germany, part of Nordfriesland district, Schleswig-Holstein, with a distinctively shaped shoreline. It belongs to the North Frisian Islands and is the largest island in North Frisia.

Sylt is the northernmost island of Germany, the northernmost town is List and the northern part of the island is to the west of Denmark.

It is known for its thatched houses. Sylt is frequently covered by the media in connection with its exposed situation in the North Sea and its ongoing loss of land during storm tides, its 40 kilometre long sandy beach with the typical beach chairs has to be filled up every year.

The Morsum Kliff on the other side is located at the wadden sea. If you are on the way from there towards List you might encounter something coming from the same origin as the occasional Sahara dust, a moving sand dune, however a very slowly moving one.
