The modern Audi brand goes back to 1909 when August Horch left the company named after him which he had founded five years earlier and started a new company, this time with the Latin translation of his name. In 1932 the brands Audi, Horch, Wanderer, and DKW merged to Auto Union and a new logo with four rings was created. The new company was later bought by Daimler-Benz and then Volkswagen. In 1969 it was merged with NSU to Audi NSU Auto Union AG, later renamed Audi AG. Recently the Horch brand name was revived for the Audi A8 Horch, an exclusive ultra luxury version of the A8
