Nico Rosberg Is F1 World Champion

Nico Rosberg is Formula One World Champion 2016, congratulations! He deserves it. He is always fair, and he drives in a very balanced way, like a clockwork. Now he won the title just like his father Keke Rosberg did in 1982, so the Rosbergs are the second family to achieve that after the Hills, Graham Hill and Damon Hill who is expert at Sky Sports F1 nowadays.

But those last five laps, they seemed to last forever. Well, first of all, he had a good start and stayed out of trouble, just Max Verstappen had a collision and lost many positions. But Max could get back to the front, even to P2, where he stayed in front of Nico for a while until Nico could overtake him. After the pit stops Vettel was leading for a while, and after his pit stop he managed to get to P3 and was threatening Nico, but he didn’t overtake him and that deliberately as he said later. The trouble was mainly caused by Lewis who deliberately drove relatively slowly and ignored the orders even from Paddy Lowe, because he was hoping people would overtake Nico then. That was a bit unfair. But they couldn’t, so Nico became world champion. Such a great moment. After crossing the line Nico did some donuts and parked his car right on the track.

Congratulations to him and the Mercedes team, to Niki Lauda and Toto Wolff as well, Niki without cap for a while as a tribute to Nico. Professor Weber of Mercedes-Benz was also in the box during the race.

What’s more, it was the last race for Felipe Massa and probably also for Jenson Button. Felipe is definitely retiring, he is a kind guy and he will be missed in Formula One. There were several former drivers watching the race, like Mika Häkkinen and Sir Jackie Steward, David Coulthard did the interviews on the podium, and also tennis star Roger Federer was invited by the Mercedes team.

Now Nico has to fly to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow morning to attend an event of the sponsor Petronas, and also otherwise it is a full program, next weekend he will be officially crowned as world champion, while Lewis has to do tyre tests in Abu Dhabi, for shaping his character, as Niki Lauda said. He also mentioned it will take three days for Nico to realise this championship win, and Niki should know it as three times world champion.

This was an amazing season, it was Nico’s season. Next year will bring rule changes and wider and faster cars. Hopefully Mercedes can still stay ahead, but well, they are Mercedes, quality is their top priority, the best or nothing.
